Business Operations Lead
We are seeking a sharp and highly dependable Business Operations Lead to drive our most important internal initiatives. If you are a proactive generalist with a knack for, or interest in analytics, people operations, and getting things done — we would love to hear from you!
The Opportunity
- High impact, ownership and responsibility from day one: as one of our first business operations hires, you’ll immediately be parachuted into helping us scale Heron. From streamlining and improving key processes in the business to helping us hire great people, and a host of other things behind the scenes, your work will be instrumental in unlocking further growth for the business.
- Exponential growth - for us and you: Heron is at the forefront of automating workflows using the latest advances in AI and LLMs. This role gives you exposure to every part of the business and an unusual amount of breadth. You’ll start by driving key strategic and operational projects, but over time you’ll have the opportunity to shape your own remit and grow into a leadership position.
- An environment where you can do your best work: We believe the best teams are lean, collaborative, and execution-focused. At Heron, you’ll work directly with our founders and leadership across functions, solving meaningful problems in real time. There’s no middle management or red tape - just a team that cares about doing great work and helping each other do the same.
What You’ll Do
An increasingly important part of our company is how we scale our team and ensure the business runs smoothly. You’ll work on this and quickly take ownership of projects. This will include:
- Internal productivity projects - identifying and implementing initiatives that help individuals and teams at Heron work more effectively. This may include strategic and analytical work in areas like sales operations, revenue operations, and general business planning or other efforts to improve productivity and how we operate like process or tooling improvements.
- Hiring and people operations - managing end-to-end recruiting processes for high-priority roles, refining how we source and evaluate candidates, and ensuring an excellent candidate experience. You might also work on improvements to onboarding, performance management, and the broader employee experience.
- Keeping the company running - working across finance, legal, tax, and compliance. You’ll help manage vendors, ensure filings get done, and resolve issues that keep our operations smooth and reliable.
- Evolving your own remit - over time, you’ll have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities based on your interests and the needs of the business. This could include anything from org design to board prep to strategic planning.
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal hire will be:
- Highly productive: You thrive on juggling multiple projects at once and driving them to completion. You’re fast, organized, and always keep the ball moving.
- A natural problem solver: You love untangling messy issues and turning ambiguity into action. You’re intellectually curious and operationally excellent.
- Detail-oriented: Whether it’s reviewing a contract, preparing an offer letter, or analyzing vendor invoices, you don’t let the small things slip.
- Analytically sharp and tech-savvy: You’re comfortable in spreadsheets, dashboards, and (ideally) tools like Notion or SQL. You’re not a developer, but you’re comfortable navigating technical conversations and data.
- Dependable and independent: You don’t need hand-holding and can be trusted to own big pieces of work end to end. You spot what needs doing and get it done.
Above all else, we value people who want to make an impact in their work. Here are some of the behaviors that we expect of all Herons:
- Scrappy and creative: when faced with an obstacle, you will either overcome it by pure determination (i.e., by hand), or find an unconventional approach or ‘hack’ to navigate it.
- Persistent: you may not always find the right answer or person immediately, but you're motivated to keep on trying until you do so. You’ll go the extra mile - including Flying to Gainesville - if that’s what it takes.
- Pilot not passenger: at a fast-growing company like Heron we need people who jump on opportunities unprompted and drive them to a great outcome, rather than folks who wait to be told what to do.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced, high-growth, team-based environment: we aim to move quickly and decisively, but together. You’ll be a great team player and do what it takes for the team to succeed.
